In Batman Begins, Tom Wilkinson played the head criminal Carmine Falcone, with his mob boss accent – very unrefined. You can imagine how surprised we were when we discovered Tom Wilkinson is actually an Englishman, with a distinct English accent, very refined and just the opposite of his character.

He has played in many English movies such as The Girl with a Pearl Earring, Sense and Sensibility and many more.

Batman Begins portrayed him in a character different from many he had ever played.

Its interesting to see people changing their accents for certain roles.

Christian Bale, famous as Batman in Christopher Nolan’s popular Batman Begins and the Dark Knight, didn’t start out in the action genre. Early on he even played in chick flicks such as Little Women.

Laurie in Little Women – the fellow in love with Jo, Laurie far from Bruce Wayne, yet nearly as complex and deep of character (warning, video contains spoilers, and it’s far too good of a movie to be spoiled, so don’t watch it if you haven’t seen it yet).

John Preston in Equilibrium – the main character in the movie that tried to out-matrix the Matrix. He should be very easy to recognize.

Jesus in Mary, Mother of Jesus – no, really. Slightly ironic, and almost less expected than him being in Little Women. Still, he seems to do a good job.

Batman in Batman Begins and the Dark Knight – in my opinion, Christian Bale’s best role so far. This is the second Dark Knight trailer.

Other Recent Movies – due to more recent marketing, you’ve of course heard about Bale in 3:10 to Yuma, the Prestige, Terminator Salvation, him playing Bob Dylan in I’m Not Here, and his upcoming role in Public Enemies.

Hugh Laurie, well known for his role as sarcastic Dr. House, played a different range of characters before coming on the show. Despite his incredibly convincing American accent, Laurie is actually British, and his previous roles as English dudes are quite humorous.

Bertie Wooster in Jeeves and Wooster – Laurie plays a guy with a butler in the classic British comedy.

Jasper in 101 Dalmatians (live action version) – I had thought this was Jasper from the original 101 Dalmatians, but he would have been 2 when it was made. Still very funny (search on youtube).

Dr. Cockroach in Monsters vs. Aliens – less recognizable as an animated cockroach, yet fun to imagine.

Mr. Little in Stuart Little - also, he talk to mice, and sing (which is more surprising?). Best around 1:20.

Mr. Palmer in Sense and Sensibility – if you’ve ever wanted to see Hugh Laurie in a Jane Austin adaptation, this is your chance. His (hilarious) expressions and mannerisms here are the closest you’ll get to those in House.

Dr. House in House M.D. – of course, the role he is most famous for. Everyone has seen the show, so take a look at these bloopers from Season 2.
